What it's About: Annemarie and her best friend Ellen live in occupied Nazi Denmark. The Nazi's are becoming much more prevalent about their searches for Jews, and Annemarie, who is ignorant about the truth about her older sister really died, ends up in the middle of the resistance. Annemarie's parents make a split section of hiding Ellen and pretending that Ellen is actually their own daughter, and then Annemarie, her mother and her baby sister must flee into free, unoccupied Nazi territory by using Annemarie's Uncle Henrik. The road to Uncle Henrik's is extremely perilous, and they often run into Nazis who is on the hunt for the Rosens. However, Ellen is sent to freedom in the safety of a boat and Annemarie never sees her friend again, however, she can live with the fact that her friend has finally found freedom. Annemarie also discovers that her eldest sister was executed by Nazi's for being part of the Resistance, along with fer fiance Pete.r This story is a great telling of the horrors of occupied Nazi reign and offers a different point of view that The Diary of Anne Frank has to offer.
