The Girl in the Steel Corset

Title: The Girl in the Steel Corset
Author: Kady Ross
Age Range:  14+
ISBN Number: 0373210337
Summary: This narrative is not the best book I ever ever read, but it is actually very interesting. This book is best described as a female version of Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. Jayne is a girl who works as a amid, trying to find a career in steampunk 19th century London. The family that she works for has a son who has an extremely scandelous reputation and when he attempts to attack Jayne, the other side takes over. In a very Bruce Banner kind of way, Jayne switches over to the dark side. It is an interesting concept, and when she meets an rich man who is interesting in her powers, Jayne's world is turned upside down. Jayne ends up interacting with Jack the Ripper and together, Jayne and her dark side battle the forces of darkness in order to protect England and herself. Jayne's ultimate goal is to be able to control her darker side that she soon discovers that exists because of a cruel experiment of her father. Jayne's adventure is extremely interesting, however, it is a long, drawn out series that does not hook even the most avid reader. This book requires a certain type of mood, just like Mary Shelly's books. The Girl in the Steel Corset is an interesting adventure and the sequel is due out anytime soon.
What's Great About It:  This was not honestly my favorite book in the world, however, it was fairly interesting. I think that if people would enjoy reading Casasndra Clare's steampunk novels, such as The Infernal Devices series with Clockwork Angel and Clockwork Prince, I think this would be a great read when waiting for the sequel to Clockwork Prince. It is also an extremely fascinating tor read a classic story turned on its side so it will be in an empowering female's voice.
