What It's About: Annabelle, a model senior, has lost her best friend due to a misunderstanding. When the story opens, the reader is privy to the fact that something terrible happened to her, but she never comes out and says it. All that Annabelle keeps repeating in her head is Shh...Annabelle, it's me...those haunting words draw in the reader to find out the true story. Annabelle is always the good daughter. She is the youngest, however, her eldest sister is over-dramatic, her middle sister is a model battling anorexia, and Annabelle is afraid that if she does come clean about the tragedy that happened to her, it would tear her family apart. So, she decides to ignore this and pretend like nothing exists. However, on her first day of Senior Year, she sees the guy who raped her and despite teasing, she ends up throwing up due to the horror. An outcast Senior befriends her and helps her and they form a sort of friendship that is a budding romance. Owen has a love for music and teaches Annabelle that you do not have to be perfect in order for someone to love you and all you have to do is just listen to the music, and peace will be given to you. This story is absolutely great. I have not actually read Speak however, I really adore this book because of the flawed characters and the ability for Annabelle to grow closer to her family.
